Department of Fashion Design in Spotlight (2019-20)- DBGI Dehradun

They say 2019 is hindsight! And we here at the Department of Fashion Design at Dev Bhoomi Group of Institutions (DBGI) couldn’t agree more. This pandemic has made us realize and learn a lot of things, and among them, the most important is ‘Living in the moment.’ Carpe Diem, as it is said. We are saying this now because when we all are stuck inside the comforts of our home, we can apprehend how much both of us (we and our students) love the outdoor hustle and vibes. And, being in the fashion industry studies whose DNA is all about CHANGE & TRENDS, we historically have been resistant to abandon runway, fashion shows, and to try something new. It has indeed taken a pandemic to get us off the dime!

We miss all of it so much that it lead us to remember the year 2019-20 of the Department of Fashion Designing at DBGI. Looking back on the Roaring 2019-20, it was a year full of joy, colour, events, functions, and dream-like creations. Here we are sharing the major events of the Department of Fashion Designing at DBGI. Join us as we channel the past were we tried our best to illustrate the future of fashion with imagination and vision while simultaneously keeping learning as our priority.

Uttarakhand Couture Week

The week-long ‘Uttarakhand Couture Week’ organized by Himalayan Buzz is a key event for the tourism, fashion & Couture industry. The chapter 2019 of the event attracted both national and international buyers, media, models, designers & fashionistas. The show became the first official designer debut of our Bachelor of Fashion Designing (BFD) students at DBGI. This provided students with a dynamic array of opportunities to network & engage with the art of fashion. This unprecedented opportunity empowered our talented designer students to debut their collections and present them within the public domain. It was a unique, lucrative, and fun experience as the show helped students gain experience of what working in the real environment feels like and, above all, provided them with the suitable resources such as networking, opportunities with international and local buyers, and media.

Fashion Conclave 2019

In the year 2019, the students also attended Fashion Conclave 2019. The event involved panel discussion where the top names of the Uttarakhand Fashion Industry were present as the panelist to discuss the opportunities to make a sustainable market for the fashion industry in Uttarakhand. Students of DBGI actively participated in a panel discussion where they learned and discovered a lot from speakers’ experiences and stories.

Dehradun Fashion Week

DBGI joined Dehradun Fashion Week and Lifestyle show as the co-sponsor. The event held in the week of September aimed to render a platform to the designers and retailers based in Dehradun, and provide them with an interface with prospective buyers. Through one of the largest fashion display events, the institute equipped students with the platform to learn and enhance their skills while experiencing the real fashion week vibe and getting the taste of what working in the actual industry seems like.

Uttarakhand Achiever’s Award

DBGI strongly believes in ‘learning by doing,’ and on the same line Department of Fashion Designing at the institute keeps on arranging various events, seminars, and programs, etc. to keep students equipped with the practical exposure and provide them with knowledge, perspective, and a better understanding of the subjects. Uttarakhand Achievers Award is an event arranged with the same perspective. DBGI joined hands with Himalayan Buzz as an education partner in this event. The event involved the acknowledgment and facilitation of young entrepreneurs hailing from Uttarakhand, who have achieved great heights in the fields of fashion, social work, media, etc. DBGI also received the Commendation Award as the Education Partner from Ms. Aparna Kumar, DIG, ITBP (Northern Frontier at Dehradun).

Mr. & Miss Dehradun 2019

GD Tailant India Enterprises organized Mr. & Miss Dehradun 2k19. It was a modelling competition for budding and ambitious youngsters where students from the Department of Fashion Designing (DBGI) actively participated in various ways, be it as the volunteers in the management team, back-stage administration, stall display or as participants. Two of our talented students, namely Hritik Raj, & Abhishek Kumar, made it to the final round amongst other participants, out of which Hritik Raj, student of B.Tech. (Batch 2019-23), won the title of Mr. Dehradun 2k19. DBGI gracefully presented itself in all the rounds, be it at the ramp or the QnA round. The entire event, along with helping students gain practical exposure, also enabled them to groom and enhance their personality.

Mr. & Ms. Teen Icon – Haldwani

The Department of Fashion Design, Dev Bhoomi Group of Institutions, arranged one of its kind competition – Mr. & Ms. Teen Icon in Haldwani on 29 January 2020. The program was aimed to provide talented youngsters of Haldwani, who are inclined towards the modelling & fashion industry, an excellent platform to showcase their talent. Institute before the event also organized Grooming sessions for the young aspiring models to make them ready for the walk on the highly coveted ramp of Mr. & Miss Teen Icon. The well-known model from Uttarakhand, Mr. Akshay Chauhan, who has won titles of Mr. Uttarakhand & Mr. North India 2018, gave precious tips to the youngsters to prepare them for the show. During the event, the young models set the ramp on fire with their patterned and profoundly gracious catwalks. The jury judged the participants’ overall performances in various rounds like Introduction, Question & Answers, etc. The event was single-handedly conceptualized, executed, and managed by the Fashion Designing students of DBGI.

These are a few significant events of the Department of Fashion Designing in 2k19 at Dev Bhoomi Group of Institutions other than that there were a plethora of Guest Lectures, Seminars, Classes, and Industry visits, etc. which lead to a lot of learning, exploring and evolving while having a tint of fun and regalement.

Currently, in 2020 all we hope and pray is to get things back to normal as soon as possible so that we can have our events and shows back on the track and once again can walk on the ramps, design our hearts out, and most importantly can feel that adrenaline run in our veins while maximizing our exposure.
