What makes MBA globally accepted than PGDM?

MBA vs PGDM is an ongoing debate, but what makes MBA a better program remains a big question. The dream of pursuing MBA is not possible without enrolling into a reputed business school, nor would you like to get into any institute without knowing the value and recognition of its course in the outside world.

As the entrance exam phase arrives, the dilemma to select a business school and MBA or PGDM course reaches its peak. All the business schools heavily boast about their faculty, placement record, and international exposure, leaving the aspirant in a state of total confusion. What adds weight to this confusion is the guidance given by education consultants who seed in the idea of doing unconventional courses for their petty monetary gains. Here, we attempt to explain what makes MBA globally accepted than PGDM?

Which is better?

Through most of the recent times, a master’s in business administration had long been the superior degree in comparison to other courses, those exceeded in business. The growth of MBA as against PGDM – largely due to its worldwide acceptance and an assured return-on-investment – has fairly been the reason this degree has proved to be the most successful educational product.

If you wish to pursue higher studies, a PGDM is considered as a diploma, while MBA is counted as a degree, giving you a better position and chance in the industry. While both the courses aim at training students in management, their approach differs to a great extent. Also, since institutes affiliated with a university can offer MBA programmes, the hold on its curriculum and study pattern is very rigid. On the other hand, since PGDM courses are autonomous in nature, they are relatively more flexible with a practical approach.

From a global perspective, an MBA will not have to struggle with recognition problems as against PGDM students who may have to show equivalence certificates from reputed institutes. Also, for those planning to pursue higher studies like Ph.D. or M.Phil., a full-time master’s degree is a pre-requisite. This gives MBA a strong standing chance in the industry. Having a college degree, and not a diploma, boosts the odds of sourcing a job and making money. Having an advanced master’s degree leads to better career growth, a better quality of life, bigger prospects for social mobility, and reduced chances of unemployment.

Of course, there is no guarantee that a PGDM won’t work, however, a degree is well worth it, and all the research shows that people who pursue MBA are more satisfied with their jobs.

Global uncertainty has affected education patterns and students should wisely choose the courses. Pursuing an MBA from the right B-school will give an edge to the students over others and help them get placed in any organization in the world.
